In the context of its research activities, the Laboratory of Viticulture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has studied in particular the ecophysiology of the vine and the influence of the factors of the biotic and abiotic environment on the metabolic processes and the quality of its products (grapes, wine) as well as the effects of viticultural techniques (irrigation, fertilisation, shaping scheme, defoliation, etc.) on the quality characteristics of the production. As part of the research and educational activities of the Laboratory, research has been carried out concerning the study of Greek grape varieties, genetic improvement resulting in the creation of several new varieties with interesting characteristics, propagation, vine physiology, and the relationship of the vine with biotic and abiotic factors.
